Welcome To The Universal Thrift Blog

Greetings world – congratulations on reaching the web’s greatest blog about a recording studio in the prestigious Longton area of Stoke-on-Trent.

Here you will find out just what we’ve been up to, what we’ve learned, who we’ve met, what’s grinding our amusing landlord’s gears and just whether the haunted microwave is behaving itself appropriately.

So it goes… First thing’s seventh… This week, we have been mostly mastering. Having finally put the finishing touches to recordings by the wonderful Bad Hair Days, and the devoid of any web presence, yet still outstanding Suspicious Soda, it was time to fire up the limiter and windmill wildly into The Loudness War. The supremely user-friendly and transparent Slate Digital fg-x did its usual no-nonsense job with the results to appear on the superfantastisch UTC Sound Cloud post haste.

In between tweaking the nipples of the mastering chain, we received a visit from the infectiously exuberant Sickness Squad. The tonic provided by the presence of a small hatchback full of Red Bull quaffing rappers cannot be underestimated. It certainly made two (slightly) ageing producers feel energized, and if not down with the kids, then certainly aware of the kids but watching from a safe distance. It also helped that we produced the track for them to ‘spray some sick bars’ over. It features the same vocal sample used by The Wu-Tang Clan in this hip-hoppy biscuit. But we don’t give a **** about usin’ no Wu-Tang sample twice blud cuz that’s how Hip Hop works innit. Brap. Phew, this new speak must be catching… That’s completely besides the point though. The track itself is coming along very nicely and should be finished next week.

Cheers for visiting us, tune in again, same thrift time, same thrift channel. We’ll let you know if the Landlord’s lumpy leg has healed properly after he fell off his own roof in a fit of Frank Spencer-esque pique.

See you soon

UTC Studio
